General Questions

Disclaimer: I typed all of this out at 11:00 at night. If stuff is misspelled, I'll fix it soon.

Why are you the author & main character?

Because this story started out as a way to entertain myself when I was bored. Being that this concept is 11+ years old, it grew into what it is now overtime. At that point, I had become so intertwined into the story, to remove myself would have defeated the purpose.

Why not write this like a traditional book?

Mainly because I want the reader to develop their own theories and ideas about what's going on. One of the reasons why I love this story is because it started out completely different! A lot of these concepts about chaos, entropic abilities, the lost woods, was never originally apart of the story. As I interacted with the world of Kastonia in my head, I started developing new ideas and incorporating them into the story.

It also fits my way of writing. It's easier to write 'short stories' than a long chapter, let alone an entire book. Plus, it allows me to tell you guys about the past events that have shaped the story up until this point. What you guys are seeing now is basically book 2.

What inspired you to create this story?

The adventures of everyday life. This story gives me the outlet to express the concepts and ideas that I've come across in life. Whether it's people, ideas, experiences, or topics, I like incorprating a lot of what I find fascinating about the real world into my inner world. As for what pushed me to make the website, my english literature teacher did! I had never thought about sharing my work. I had to do a project the class she was teaching me in about what literature does for us or what it means to us. I decided to make a blog on wix--if you can find it, it might be bonus content--and I added some short stories I had already written. She was impressed and told me that she was interested in my work. So, I set out to make this website.

How long did it take you to make this website?

I started coding this in Janurary of 2026. Worked on it into the beginning of February, dropped it, and then started working on it 2 weeks before I planned on launching it May 27th. I'm a master procrastinator.

How can I contact you?

I don't have anything dedicated to this just yet. But if you just really want to reach out, you can reach out to me on my instagram @_frye.fashion

The Political System

How does the political system work in Kastonia?

It's a system of checks and balances using different types of governments, not branches--although the concept is the same. There is a (federal level) monarchy, a (state level) democracy, and a (local level) council.

The monarchy has the most power. It makes the overarching laws and deal with federal taxes, district zoning, trying federal crimes, the power to initate war with other major cities, commanding its own army (royal guards), and is the ambassador for Kastonia when meeting or trading with other major cities. The people have no control over who the monarchy is (unless specific circumstances arise).

Then there is a democracy on the 'state level'. Kastonia is made up of districts. The districts are like 'states' with smaller cities within that district. People get to elect who they want to represent their district. Representation isn't based on population. The district representatives make up a 'Royal Council' in which they're given the opporutnity to influence the laws that the monarchy makes & passes. Aside from representiting their district, district government officials are responsible for state laws. They are also responsible for state taxes, certain felonious crimes (like white collar crimes), all civil, divorce, drug, and municipal court matters, inspections of extremely large public facilities (like a giant shopping mall, a huge company building, etc.), adoptions, child-protection services, educational requirements, traffic laws, etc. They command & manage the police force within their district.

Finally, you have the council. The council is made up of local representatives such as business owners, community leaders, doctors, some lawyers, principals, etc. Typically, people who are well respected and hold some small scale position of power. They take care of local issues such as construction projects (which needs approval from the district officials), food/blood/donation drives, inspections of public facilities, community events, etc. They usually have no dealings with law making, however a lot of them can act as a lobbyist that isn't affiliated with the Royal Council.

The political system is very complex. But it's complex to make sure that all 'issues' are addressed fairly and effectively. At least...that's the designed goal.

Entropy

What is entropy?

There's a lot of scientific jargon about entropy. It mainly relates to the laws of themrodynamics, heat, work, mass, etc. I'd suggest you do your own scientific reasearch if you wanna know about that. However, I still used a lot of the scientific terminology and principles as the fundamentals for my magic system. So, I will explain that scienitific side and how it relates to entropic abilities.

Entropy is a measure of disorder or randomness in a system. Entropy is energy and energy is magic. These terms can be used interchangably at times. Everyone has entropy, an entropic pool, and an entropic ability.

One of the biggest concepts with entropy is that it points to the direction of time. As more chaoticness or randomness is introduced into a system, the level of entropy will only increase, not decrease. The only exception occurs within an open and closed systems. I'll go over that later.

What is an entropic pool?

An entropic pool is a reservoir of entropic energy that individuals can draw from to produce magic. The size of one's entropic pool is based on the ability they have. People don't typically develop entropic abilities until the age of 5-6. Entropic pools grow as the individual grows older. During puberty, an individual's entropic pool will either rapidly grow in size or stay relatively the same. The growth of one's entropic pool is heavily contingent on what the entropic ability is.

The entropic pool acts as an open system. It can release and draw in entropy--for it to then be released again. Once one's energy reserves are depleted, they become extremely weak and cannot use their entropic ability. Here's the catch: The dangers of entropic pools don't come from the lack of entropic energy within the pool, but too much entropic energy. Having too much entropic energy will cause an entropic collapse.

What is an entropic ability?

It's basically someone's magical abilities. There are five different classifications. These classifications depend on the size of one's entropic pool and what their entropic ability is. Classifications can indiciate how powerful an individuals' ability is, but it typically doesn't. How powerful the ability is depends on how the individual uses it. I go over the different classifications in the Entropic Abilities database.

What is an entropic collapse?

An entropic collapse occurs when too much entropic energy accumulates within a person. It's like putting mentos into a bottle of coke. It's gonna blow. When someone goes into an entropic collapse, they turn into an amalgamation of their former selves.

What scientist don't understand fully is the exact causes and triggers. For example, you can have someone dealing with mental illness and at the end of their rope never go into an entropic collapse. Meanwhile, average Joe over here just lost his job, and he goes into an entropic collapse. The only thing they have in common is that their entropic energy levels are dangerously high. But one went into an entropic collapse while the other one didn't.

More importantly, entropic collapses are extremely rare. 0.005% of Kastonia's population go into entropic collapses each year. Kastonia has a population of roughly 20 million people. So give or take 1,000 people experience an entropic collapse.

Once someone goes into an entropic collapse, their chances of dying are exponentially high. Of that 0.005%, 80% of them die. Scientists are currently studying as many survivors of entropic collapses as they can in order to get a better understanding of the phenomenon.

What is an open system?

Open systems are a real world concept. An open system is a system that can exchange energy, matter, work, or heat with its surroundings. In the context of entropic energy, an open system can both release and absorb entropy from the environment.

Not every individual needs to absorb entropy in order to perform their ability. This is because there are two other types of systems. Isolated and Closed systems. However, at this point in time, there's no need for me to explain how those systems work.
